A wood fired soap dish that has been colored by flames and lightly glazed by the wood ash in the fire.
It was thrown on a wheel then altered by throwing it on a stone slab then shaped and dried in a cotton sling. The raised spiral helps keep the soap out of the water.
The stoneware clay used to make this soap dish has been formulated to take the heat of a cone 13 (approx. 2450 degrees F.) wood-firing. It has been colored by the flames and lightly glazed by the wood ash in the fire. It was fired in an anagama kiln stoked with wood every few minutes non-stop for 5 days.
About 6 1/4 inches long and about 4 1/4 wide.
